The Deep End is a snooze-fest. I'd heard so many good recommendations for this film I figured it was a sure-fire winner. It's not. I'd heard that Tilda Swinton gives a mesmerizing performance. She doesn't. It's supposed to be a smart thriller. It isn't. It's a pretty weak film, but the story is serviceable and easy enough to watch. I saw more potential in the story than I did actual execution.
The story is simple not intriguing, it's very straightforward, and the acting isn't very good. That all adds up to me not caring about the characters nor what happens to them. I dislike this film for the same reason I don't fully enjoy In The Bedroom: The main character does some things that I simply don't believe she would do.
I'll go ahead and pat myself on the back for recognizing Lake Tahoe during the opening credits.

Why would you try to hide a body in water so shallow? And if Beau, who is clearly underage, was caught drinking and driving and got into an accident, why is he allowed to drive later in the film? His license would have been revoked.
