My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a bit amateurish, but forgivable because it's all in good fun.  Ultimately it's a warm and funny film, but about a half hour into it I was undecided as to whether I should be offended by the thick stereotypes that had been layed out.  The early parts of this movie are not that great: we are introduced to the ugly duckling that inevitably breaks out of her shell to find love and happiness, which is a tired enough concept on its own, but the magnitude of this particular transformation is so large as to be implausible.

Once the early parts of the film have passed and we get into the meat of the story, it takes a turn for the better.  It's original and comedic with memorable characters and a nice love story.
