Rocky III is a movie I grew up on.  It's brilliant in so many ways, yet stupid in so many others.  How brilliant is Clubber Lang?  Clubber is Mike Tyson before there was a Mike Tyson.  I envision a young Mike Tyson watching this movie and thinking Clubber is such a badass that he'll become a boxer just like him.  The way Tyson would pace like a caged animal before fights: just like Clubber.  Tyson wears black shorts: just like Clubber.  Tyson, the mean, intimidating, big-punching knockout artist: just like Clubber.  Clubber roars like a lion on every punch, I imagine Tyson roars like a lion inside his head on every punch.

I have some questions about the continuity of the Rocky character.  How did he become such a smooth, sophisticated, intelligent man, when in the previous movie he couldn't hold a job acting in commercials because he couldn't read the damn cue cards?  And what happened to Rocky's eyesight problem from Rocky II?  That movie was all about how he couldn't see out of one eye, and Mickey didn't want him to fight because of it.  I guess whatever wonder drug he took to become so sophisticated also corrected his eyesight.

I would have loved to see an Apollo Creed vs. Clubber Lang fight.

Paulie is a joke.  Literally.  He is in this movie for comic relief only.  Every scene, every line, it's comedy.  Kind of sad that his character was relegated to that.
