The Royal Tenenbaums is a fun piece of entertainment. This is the first Wes Anderson film that I think is really great. Bottle Rocket and Rushmore were decent enough, but I think this is Anderson's first step to becoming a truly great filmmaker, and I'll look forward to seeing what he does next.
Now. Gene Hackman is perfect in this movie and in the role of Royal Tenenbaum. If it were up to me, I'd hand him an Academy Award right now. There's just nobody else who could play the role with Hackman's wit, charm, and character. Speaking of character ... Royal is one of the most memorable characters to appear on a movie screen this year.
Quirkiness abounds in this story of a family of geniuses and their hidden secrets. Each scene contains a number of layers, so I'd predict that the rewatchability quotient is very high for The Royal Tenenbaums.

Gwyneth Paltrow in a brief lesbian nude scene (the lesbian is nude, not Gwyneth).

"What a silly family! Looks like they have lots of money, so why are they fighting and being sad all the time!?"
