Showtime received horrible reviews from many critics. I found it fun. It's ten times better than any of the last few Lethal Weapon movies. In fact, the Lethal Weapon franchise could use a big injection of the essence of Showtime. Jokes that are funny instead of tired. Characters that are a little more "aware" of themselves. The obligatory romance left on the cutting room floor. I think about classic cop-buddy pictures like 48 Hours, and I remember how they were edgy and funny. Showtime is much more lighthearted than that, but it carries on the tradition of at least ATTEMPTING something new. I give it points for that. And it's funny, it's short, it's entertaining. Sometimes that's all a movie needs to be.
