Shrek is more fun than a barrel of ogres!  Shrek is an amazing fantasy adventure!

Those are quotes that DreamWorks' marketing department can use on their posters.  Shrek is a lot of fun to watch because it doesn't only pander to children.  It has an adult sensibility and tongue-in-cheek thing going on that makes it fun for the whole family!  When crocoWife turned to me to see if I liked it, I gave her two thumbs up(!) to indicate that yes, I did indeed enjoy this animated romp.  Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy are hilarious!  Cameron Diaz is sweet and charming!  The animation is really very good.  It's realism makes it closer to CGI than to the type of animation that Pixar does.  Pixar makes three dimensional cartoons, PDI makes photo-realistic animation.  So I can tell you that the animation is incredibly life-like!  OK, seriously, the fire animations are brilliant, and the comedy is smart and fresh, not the same old junk that most children's films call "comedy" nowadays.  Four stars!

I can only wonder what Chris Farley (originally cast) would have been like as Shrek.  Shrek even looks like Farley.
