Funny? Yes. Best picture of 2004? No. Maybe I'm a victim of too much hype, but Sideways doesn't strike me as Oscar material. It's a great script, very good acting (particularly Giamatti), and good direction, but it doesn't live up to the media's (or my family members') billing.

For a period of time after this film came out, sales of Pinot Noir were higher than usual. I guess people were sitting around after the movie saying, "you know, that Paul Giamatti is right. I should drink more pinot."
